Back to School

I'm back in school part-time at CLC (College of Lake County, for those who don't reside in Illinois), taking ACC 121 "Financial Accounting" as part of the required credits needed to be eligible to eventually take the CPA exam.  Monday nights, 6-10 PM.  But the instructor killed about an hour and a half just by having all of us introduce ourselves, etc., and also by letting those procrastinators who didn't already have the textbook go buy it.

There are 3 people in this class from Ukraine.  That in itself doesn't bother me, but they also like to ask a LOT of questions, which makes each lesson about twice as long as it needs to be.  It gives me a chance to double check my notes and my work, though, which is fine by me, because there were also a significant number of people (at least 5) in my class who have already attempted to take this course and failed.  And a lot of them weren't getting it the second time around, either.  Yikes...

When something extremely inportant gets mentioned in class, the instructor calls it "tattoo-worthy".  For example, he half-jokingly suggested that we should get the accounting equation (Assets = Liabilities + Stockholders Equity) tattooed on ourselves.  He says that there are two former students who actually took him up on this, and really do have this tattooed somewhere on their bodies.  I would like to meet these people, and futher reassure myself that I'm glad I'm not one of them.

On my left was a very nice lady named Kenji, who works at Hewitt.  (Recognize the name, Alex?  Probably not, but it can't hurt to ask.)  She had very cute trousers on.  On my right was Cher - not even kidding, she's convinced that she was named after the singer, though I guess her parents adamantly deny that.  She's even more of a smart-ass than I can be, but in a funny way.  She and I immediately bonded by bashing the know-it-alls who sit in the front row and never stop asking questions.  (There's always at least one suck-up like that in every class; we have two of them.)  The three of us became a group when it was time to start working on exercises out of the textbook, and somehow this turned into: 1) me being pegged as the one who knows what she's doing, and 2) lunch/study group on Saturday at Friday's in Gurnee.  Not sure if this going to end up being a weekly thing, but I intend to finish all of my homework by Saturday so that the study group part of this can go as quickly as possible.  The lunch part can go as long as it needs to, though, I like these 2 ladies. :)

That's all for now.  Lunch time!!
